My Practice Philosophy…

I strive to provide the highest quality of advanced surgical care by strictly adhering to accepted standards for the treatment of animals. As a result, I, along with local veterinary hospitals, am able to give pets the absolute best veterinary care.
As a member of your family, your pet deserves nothing less than the best care available. My commitment to having the most advanced technology is unrivaled. My priority, however, lies with giving you and your family all the support you need – through communication, care and compassion.
I am highly trained and experienced in providing prompt and intensive management of patients with life-threatening conditions and those requiring extraordinary supportive care.
My multi-disciplinary approach and close cooperation allows me to offer the best care available to the patients entrusted to me.
I am committed to using science, technology and compassion to provide exceptional care for pets and their families.

My caseload encompasses patients with a wide range of orthopedic, neurologic, oncologic (cancer), thoracic, and soft tissue problems. I am available for surgery, consultation, assistance with difficult surgical cases, or when the use of specialized surgical equipment or techniques is required. My combined effort allows me to confer on patient management, to be readily available for trauma or other emergency referrals, and to further expand our own surgical subspecialties. My practice is equipped with the latest specialized instrumentation and equipment. The safest anesthetic agents are used, and patients are continuously monitored throughout anesthesia. Experienced, registered veterinary technicians and a well-trained technical support staff play a key role in perioperative intensive care. Patient care is provided 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.
Your pet deserves exceptional care

Pre-surgical instructions

I will do a check-up on your pet before the surgery to determine if there are any pre-existing conditions that may interfere with the surgical procedure.
Make sure your pet is current on his or her vaccinations.
I may suggest a blood test to screen for disease not apparent from a physical exam. You may need to administer antibiotics several days prior to major surgery to increase your pet’s ability to fight off infection.
I will tell you when to withhold water and food prior to an operation.

★★★★★ Dr Infernuso the Magnificent

Not only is this doctor a professional but a genuinely caring human being who puts people & their pets before anything else. Our 5 yr old Mastiff Daisy had a terrible reaction to an anti-inflammatory that caused her to go into complete liver failure. Together over 3 months & countless visits she pulled through. If your lucky enough to have this man as your vet than its one less thing in life to worry about

★★★★★ Truly a Miracle Worker

My 10 year old Scottish Terrier Chester consumed a mushroom in my back yard on 10/12/2008. Chester almost instantly went into shock. After being at the Seldon Emergency Hospital for two days, we transfered him to Long Island Veterinary Specialists and into the talented and skilled hands of Dr. Infernuso. During surgery Dr. Infernuso decided to use a mesh made from the intestines of a pig to wrap and hold together the damaged portion of Chester's intestine. What followed was nothing short of a miracle as Dr. Infernuso dealt with the kidney problems, Nacrotic Pancreatitis and every other side effect of the poisoning.
Chester survived and as Thomas told me, "You'll have him for years", and we did. Three wonderful years, everyday of which I owe to this great and modest man.

★★★★★ Cancer Surgery
Aly B. 5 Long Island Veterinary Specs
My almost 8 yr golden had a growth on her gum. I took her to my vet, we did a biopsy (they weren't concerned b/c she's very hearty) & it came back, to everyone's surprise, as malignant- fibrosarcoma, a very aggressive form of cancer.
Dr. Tomas Infernuso called me right away (my vet had reached out to him) & explained the options. The recommendation was surgary- to remove the top jaw, past her canines. I consulted a second veterinary oncologist, who agreed w/ his recommendations. So, we moved forward.
Prior to surgery, the day of and days following Dr. Infernuso kept me abreast of everything with phone calls & many text messages, answered my questions and walked me through what to expect. He kept in contact w/ my vet & their office, along w/ the emergency vet staff during her initial recovery. I don't think anyone in the medical field (animal or human) has communicated so thoroughly. I didn't have to worry & knew my pup was given the utmost care.
The portion of her jaw that was removed was biopsied and there was a good margin (of buffer) and she's now cancer free.
I love my dog and she's 100% her happy little self, wagging her tail & running around w/o any lingering effects, which is exactly what I went into the surgery hoping for.
My take-away, is pure confidence in Dr. Infernuso abilities & thrilled w/ his communication skills. Revisiting my vets, they were also shared this confidence & were very impressed.
